Mouthguards are mandatory in Gaelic football. A custom-fit guard in your club colours protects better and actually gets worn — built in a real Galway dental lab, not posted from abroad.
The rule
The GAA made mouthguards compulsory at all levels and grades of Gaelic football for men since 2014, and the Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA) made them mandatory in ladies' football since 2017. They are required in training and in matches, for every age grade.
Mandatory at all levels and grades since 2014, under GAA playing rules — training and games alike.
Mandatory across all grades since 2017 under LGFA rules. The same protection standard for every player.
A guard only works when it's worn. Custom-fit comfort means players keep it in — where a loose boil-and-bite comes out.
Rules are set by the GAA and LGFA and can change. Always check your association's current regulations for your grade. We make no "official GAA" or guaranteed-protection claim.
Find your route
Order your own custom GAA guard in your club colours, through the appropriate clinical or dentist-prescribed pathway where a scan or fitting is required. Your model is kept on file for quick reorders.
Bring Setanta to your club for an order night — adult players scanned on-site, guards labelled by player in your colours. Player-pay or club invoice, better pricing the more players order together.
Make it your club's
Guards can be made in your club's colour combinations, with player initials or names so nothing gets mixed up on order night or in the kit bag.
We never reproduce a club crest or county mark without authorisation — we'll confirm what's allowed before fabrication.
For clubs & teams
One order night gets your adult players measured and a full set of labelled guards delivered in your colours. Start a club enquiry and we'll plan it around your training schedule.
